Process Paper
Why we chose this topic:
Whenever we have learned about the past, the 70’s has always symbolized a decade of freedom, beauty, and peace. But there was one day in particular that sparked the new era of music. It was the Woodstock Music Festival in August 1969 that led to the 70’s way of life. After hearing all about this easy going time, as a group, we decided to investigate Woodstock and it happened to be a perfect topic for the history fair. Also, as teenagers, music is a huge media that affects us daily. It makes us feel a certain way or initiates a diverse view on life. Music interests us and this project just let us learn more about its background and history.
How we conducted our research:
Overall, our main source of information was found over the internet. We searched “Woodstock 1969” on Google and found a couple sites that introduced us to the overall theme of our topic. We deepened our search and found some helpful sites but didn’t really feel very satisfied. We incorporated some former resources given to us by our school librarian. We went on the media center site and went to the online databases that it supports and it linked us to the PPCHS Gale Virtual Reference Library. We found valid facts and it advanced our project immensely.
How we created and developed our website:
Making the website was quite easy because our generation is so compatible with technology. We used a website that lets anyone freely create their own website. It is called Weebly and made creating one of our own sites really easy. We made an account for the website and then we simply just put a theme on the background, put in our research, and made it look pretty with pictures and colors. Our tabs on the website include drugs, morals, and fashion. We equally divided out the work and so Ashley worked on researching the fashion, Carissa did the morals, and Macy focused on the drugs. These topics include the main focus of the people who attended the festival.
How our project relates to the theme:
The theme of this year’s national history fair is Turning Points in History: People, Ideas, Events. Of course our topic is an event that occurred and changed the nation’s culture. Before Woodstock, the United States was recovering from the Cold War and the Vietnam War. Music brought the country together and the Woodstock Festival made people believe that they were a part of something greater. It also changed the music industry forever. It definitely turned the country around from slowly recovering from pain and sorrow to joining together as all lovers of music and peace.
