At Woodstock there were no cops present. This made it easy for drugs to become of heavy use. The employees working the concession stands swapped hot dogs and hamburgers for dope. Even the festival kept promoting LSD. Drug use got so out of hand that the festival's medical corps set about a dozen "freak out tents" where overdoes and other drug related symptoms could be treated and taken care of. The most popular drugs that Hippies used at Woodstock were drugs such as LSD and Marajuna. LSD (Lysergic acid diethylamide) is best known as Hallucinogen. LSD was discovered by Albert Hoffmin. The side effects of LSD begin to come into play 30 to 90 minutes after taking the drug. Some of the side effects include: increase in blood pressure and heart rate, sweating, dialated pupils, muscle weakness, and chills. One of the most important facts about LSD is that it has srtong pyscoactive effects. Psycoactive drugs means any fdrug that effects the mind or behavior. Marajuna the sland term "weed" was also popular among the hippies. The long-term effects of marajuna may include decrease in motivation and harmful effects on the brain, heart, lung and reproductive system. In 1969 drugs became very popular to hippies because of the psycdeli feeling it gave them. Today though, still not socially acceptable drugs such a marjuna not so much as LSD ar still used. Woodstock changed the United States morally as well. Before the 60's good values and morals were vastly important to the nation. Woodstock changed all of this. The hippies had a carefree lifestyle. The opinions of others who were not part of counterculture did not interest them. During Woodstock people danced, sang, and made love. Many people even wore minimal or no clothing. Woodstock brought about the beginning of moral decline for America. |
